    Titanium is now used in steam turbine blades, condensers and tube sheets in thermal and atomic power plants. Over the years, it has accounted for more than 20% of the factory output of processed titanium and titanium alloy materials.


    In order to improve the operation rate and safety of atomic power plants, the use of titanium condensers is being studied. The latest 1100MW atomic power station requires 150t of titanium, so it can become the main application field of titanium materials. The amount of titanium used in thermal power stations is also considerable. A power station with a capacity of 600MW requires 60t of titanium.


    (1) Condenser: Power plants and nuclear power plants built on the seashore use seawater as the coolant, so the condenser must be made of titanium material that is resistant to seawater corrosion. By 1975, 26 thermal power plants and 9 nuclear power plants in the United States used titanium condensers and approximately 1,700 tons of titanium tubes. By the end of 1998, my country had nearly 30 power plants with 94 units using all-titanium condensers and titanium tube condensers. The total capacity of the units reached 27,000MW, and the total consumption of titanium tubes reached 3,400t. However, most of them came from the United States, Japan, and France. and imported from the UK.


    (2) The rotation speed of the titanium alloy blade generator rotor can generally reach 3600r/min. Considering the load capacity of the rotor, the length of the Cr steel blades is limited to 850.9mm. When TC4 titanium alloy is selected, the blade length may be reduced. The increase to 1041.4mm can greatly improve the power generation efficiency and reduce the cost of power generation without increasing the stress in the rotor, which will help solve the key problem of steam turbines for atomic power generation. Virtue research shows that the fatigue strength of 12Cr steel and TC4 titanium alloy in saturated NaCl solution is 20% and 90% of that in air respectively. Titanium steam turbine blades are not afraid of erosion by water droplets condensed by steam, and the blade life is twice that of Cr steel. above.
